On May 12, only a couple weeks after the disastrous magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Nepal, there was yet another earthquake in the same area – this time a magnitude 7.4 event. Since the magnitude scale is logarithmic, the smaller magnitude means that the May 12 quake was several times smaller than the initial shock, but since many buildings in the area were weakened by the first quake there was still significant damage and several dozen deaths reported.

The second quake met the technical definition of an aftershock of the first quake and gives an opportunity to explain aftershocks. The U.S. Geological survey defines aftershocks as “earthquakes that follow the largest shock of an earthquake sequence. They are smaller than the mainshock and within 1-2 rupture lengths distance from the mainshock.”

About Me

I grew up in a small town helping my parents on their farm. There I developed my love for nature and a desire to explore. Now I travel around the world photographing nature.

Interests

I love to travel. I have been everywhere, from Alaska to Zimbabwe. For every trip I keep a travel log of my adventures and capture the world as I see it.

Check out my photo gallery to get a glimpse into where I have been. And drop me a line if want to find out more. I always love to hear from fellow travelers.

Aspirations

I am looking for my next big adventure. There are still many places I want to visit and even more to which I want to return. The camera is charged up and my backpack is packed; drop me a line if you know where I should go next.
