To anyone who is wanting to go to Nepal right now to help out or thinking of sending supplies to Nepal: don’t do it unless you are a medical personnel or a professionally trained first responder going there as part of an organized team. Other volunteers will most likely be a liability and will use up vital resources that are required by the victims that are most effected by this devastating earthquake.
Don’t sent supplies because there is really no place to store them. People don’t even have homes to go to, so there really is no place to store supplies other than the designated rescue and relief stations. Instead donate to the organizations already on ground!
I understand some people will want to go and help out but wait until the initial relief efforts have been completed and then you can go help with rebuilding homes and temples and villages etc. You may need to wait for weeks or even months before it’s safe for you to go and help out.

do you know of any good local organizations to volunteer with? I loved in Pokhara all of last year and can't figure out what to do If you are thinking of going to Nepal right away I’d tell you to wait a bit longer. Maybe in a few months or so. As for local organizations the Nepali Red Cross and UNICEF are two that come to mind right now. There are many more groups you can volunteer with but wait a few weeks at least before going. I’ll do some research and make a post about possible organizations you can volunteer with after the immediate relief and rescue operations are completed.

My best wishes to Nepal and its people; Such a shame that the earthquake struck a place so rich in beautiful culture and geography. T_T When do you think everything will be alright again? Everyone was expecting an earthquake, but it is still extremely tragic. :( It’ll probably take years and years for Nepal. Maybe a decade…that’s if everything goes right. This is why I tell people to not rush to Nepal right now because a year from now they’ll still need lots of people to rebuild.

| About MeI grew up in a small town helping my parents on their farm. There I developed my love for nature and a desire to explore. Now I travel around the world photographing nature. InterestsI love to travel. I have been everywhere, from Alaska to Zimbabwe. For every trip I keep a travel log of my adventures and capture the world as I see it. Check out my photo gallery to get a glimpse into where I have been. And drop me a line if want to find out more. I always love to hear from fellow travelers. |
Aspirations
I am looking for my next big adventure. There are still many places I want to visit and even more to which I want to return. The camera is charged up and my backpack is packed; drop me a line if you know where I should go next.
