Namaste Dai/Didi. I get asked this question a lot and I do not know how to answer it because I don't know much of Nepal's history since I was raised in the US. People always say "Isn't Nepal basically like India". People always link Nepal to India when I tell them I'm Nepali and I was wondering if you could tell me MAJOR differences between Nepal and India. When I say the language and the food is different, they don't think that is legit smite enough. Thank you! Love your blog btw! Hello! Thank you! I have to admit I don’t know much about Nepal’s history either because I was also raised in North America. Usually when people mesh Nepal and India as the same entity, they are either uneducated or ignorant. There has been times when I’ve tried to explain the difference and a few people wouldn’t accept it. Some people don’t like hearing they are wrong or ill-informed. You probably have run into similar situations..we can’t do anything about ignorance so just leave it. BUT! For people who really don’t know..there are tons of things that are different. First of all, they are two completely different political countries. It’s like saying “Yeah US + Canada/ Spain+ Portugal/ Brazil+ Argentina are the same thing”. See, how ridiculous that sounds? [you can probably start world wars with such statements] They have never been the same country. Both countries have similar culture, but there are so many differences within the cultures. There are so many ethnic groups in each country, it would be atrocious to lump them all together. Just the way we celebrate festivals…India has its own traditions when they celebrate, Dasain (Dusherra), Tihar (Diwali), Holi etc etc. The major language is different: Nepali vs. Hindi. Even though we have similar religions..the way it is followed and the way traditional ceremonies (like weddings etc) are carried out very differently. That’s all I can think of for you. Perhaps some of my followers know more and would like to add onto this post..I would be very grateful. Sorry, for the late reply, if only tumblr notified me of messages in my inbox, my life would be a lot easier :)

| About MeI grew up in a small town helping my parents on their farm. There I developed my love for nature and a desire to explore. Now I travel around the world photographing nature. InterestsI love to travel. I have been everywhere, from Alaska to Zimbabwe. For every trip I keep a travel log of my adventures and capture the world as I see it. Check out my photo gallery to get a glimpse into where I have been. And drop me a line if want to find out more. I always love to hear from fellow travelers. |
I am looking for my next big adventure. There are still many places I want to visit and even more to which I want to return. The camera is charged up and my backpack is packed; drop me a line if you know where I should go next.
