Hey Tate. I'll be going to Nepal in a few months. Could you recommend some hikes to do/must do things? And do you mind telling me how much you spent while over there? So keen for this trip :) anyway love your blog and photos, they're very inspiring. Thanks!

Oh my goodness I am so envious :) Nepal is one of the most incredible places in the world, I swear. You are going to have the time of your life. So, what you do/see/hike honestly totally depends on how much time you’re spending there. I was there for three months so I had a lot of time to sort of flit around and try a lot. The best trek I did was the Annapurna Base Camp trek, which can also be connected with Poon Hill and the Annapurna Circuit (which turns it into like a 30-ish day hike), so look into that. You can also do the Everest Base Camp hike but that’s much more crowded, and is fairly more trashed. There are also a few remote hikes you can do in the restricted regions, but legally you need to do that with a guide. There’s also an incredible amount of outdoor adventures to do based out of Pokhara (the 2nd biggest town in Nepal, and is an outdoors hub), like whitewater rafting, climbing, kayaking, paragliding, etc. But that’s all stuff you can find by reading a Nepal Lonely Planet guidebook.

Prices: I was living off of $100 a week, roughly. Obviously this was increased in weeks where I bought trekking permits, did rafting, etc. It’s incredibly cheap.

Random things: rent a motorbike for a day in Pokhara. It’s like $7 for 24 hours, and you can drive as far as you want and explore like crazy. In Pokhara get up at 3 AM one morning to hike to the top of a mountain called Sarangkot, where the sunrise over the Himalayas is remarkable (insider tip: don’t go all the way to the top, because there will tons of tourists up there, so follow one of the terraced fields just below the top so you can have the view all to yourself). Circle Kathmandu’s Bodhnath temple, with the pigeons and the monks and the beautiful drums and chanting — it’s unbelievable. People watch in Durbar Square from sunrise to sundown. Get lost in the cobblestone streets and winding markets of Bhaktapur, which is Kathmandu’s medieval neighborhood. Eat a ton of momos (dumplings), tongba (warm, milled beer), daal baht (Nepal’s staple, and use your fingers), and spicy chai. Hike to the Peace Pagoda in Pokhara to watch the sun go down over Phewa Lake. Visit a Tibetan refugee camp in the hills above Pokhara. Stay in the Celesty Inn in Pokhara — best deal for quality you’ll find in Lakeside, and say hello to the incredible owner, Narayan, for me. Take the bus to Lumbini and do a meditation retreat. Then go to Chitwan and do a safari in the jungle, spotting elephants, leopards, rhinos, and tigers. I know there is more to do in the Everest Region but I didn’t get super close to that region. It’s such an easy place to just hop off the bus and explore, though. There is no shortage of things to discover. And for the record, here’s a link of my favorite cafes/restaurants I encountered over there that you should check out if you want.

About Me

I grew up in a small town helping my parents on their farm. There I developed my love for nature and a desire to explore. Now I travel around the world photographing nature.

Interests

I love to travel. I have been everywhere, from Alaska to Zimbabwe. For every trip I keep a travel log of my adventures and capture the world as I see it.

Check out my photo gallery to get a glimpse into where I have been. And drop me a line if want to find out more. I always love to hear from fellow travelers.

Aspirations

I am looking for my next big adventure. There are still many places I want to visit and even more to which I want to return. The camera is charged up and my backpack is packed; drop me a line if you know where I should go next.
