Protective Talsiman Chart (Sid Pa Ho). Himalayan. 1800s.

The central figure is a yellow tortoise, emanation of the bodhisattva Manjushri, lying on the back with the head pointed upward and the four limbs extended at the sides holding staves with impaled corpses. In the center of the round flat belly is a small circle of nine variously coloured squares containing the 9 magic numbers (me wa gu). Surrounding that, on a dark blue background are the 8 trigrams (par kha ge) of Chinese origin. The outer circle in various colours, representing the elements, contains the 12 animal figures of the 60 Year Cycle; surrounded by flames.

Below the central figure are two smaller mandala circles containing protection wheels - the left also on the belly of a tortoise. Both contain mantras and verses to bring about good fortune. Between the two are the symbols of the planets - also representing the days of the week; sun, moon, eye, hand, kila, arrowhead, sheaf and black bird head.

I think there is a very big chance I will finish last. The placing is not important if I can teach young people in Nepal about the Olympic spirit. This spirit is in my heart.

Dachhiri Sherpa, Nepal’s 3rd Winter Olympian EVER

Can’t help but ascribe some cosmic significance to encountering this quote right after seeing this ad while watching the Olympics

About Me

I grew up in a small town helping my parents on their farm. There I developed my love for nature and a desire to explore. Now I travel around the world photographing nature.

Interests

I love to travel. I have been everywhere, from Alaska to Zimbabwe. For every trip I keep a travel log of my adventures and capture the world as I see it.

Check out my photo gallery to get a glimpse into where I have been. And drop me a line if want to find out more. I always love to hear from fellow travelers.

Aspirations

I am looking for my next big adventure. There are still many places I want to visit and even more to which I want to return. The camera is charged up and my backpack is packed; drop me a line if you know where I should go next.
