Do you think if migrant parents are denying their own roots if don't teach their children their own language? To me it sort of seems shady!

Yes, I personally think so. But forcing your culture on a kid isn’t good either. Idk I feel like eventually when the kid grows up they’re gonna regret not knowing about their language or their culture. I’m actually not sure. I want to hear your guys’ opinion on it. What do you think?

Are there family dynasties in Nepal that are traditionally rich and hold the power? I'm thinking about something like the Rothschilds or other high end aristocratic families in the Western World

Yes. Royal families have always had power. Families like: Shah, Rana, Singh (chettri), Malla, Royal Thakuri etc etc. In recent years other families have risen to power due to involvement in politics or success in business. Political families like the Koirala and business families like the Chaudhary family ( own Chaudhary group of companies worth $1.4 Billion) and Dugar (own K. L. Dugar group of companies). There are other prominent business owners from the Shrestha family as well. On top of that there are families who were aides to the royal families and also gained a lot of power and wealth through that. There are so many more I’m sure but these are just the ones I could think of.

what's the meaning of "chyangba hoi chyangba" and maichyang? thank you x

Chyangba and Maichyang are from the Tamang language, and it’s another way of saying young unmarried boy (Chyangba) and young unmarried girl (Maichyang). More so like saying “Thita” or “Thiti” in Nepali (if you know Nepali that should make sense).

should a nepali person be able to at least understand basic newari and bhot (tibetan or lets say tamang)? i feel like nepal's culture is deteriorating because we are losing our languages!

I think so to some degree. For example, here in Canada kids learn some years of French in school. It’s mandatory since French is also an official language. That being said other indigenous languages like Cree or Inuit aren’t required (or at least in the southern provinces as far as I know) and most schools don’t even offer it. I think the Nepali school system should do something like that but better. Schools should require a third language option (Nepali and English are already required) and offer options for Newari, or Tamang or Maitheli or Bhojpuri or Sherpa etc languages. So that kids have to take at least one of these languages which would help with language preservation and help kids from different ethnic groups an opportunity to preserve their language and culture.

About Me

I grew up in a small town helping my parents on their farm. There I developed my love for nature and a desire to explore. Now I travel around the world photographing nature.

Interests

I love to travel. I have been everywhere, from Alaska to Zimbabwe. For every trip I keep a travel log of my adventures and capture the world as I see it.

Check out my photo gallery to get a glimpse into where I have been. And drop me a line if want to find out more. I always love to hear from fellow travelers.

Aspirations

I am looking for my next big adventure. There are still many places I want to visit and even more to which I want to return. The camera is charged up and my backpack is packed; drop me a line if you know where I should go next.
