Nepal listed among Top 3 in Lonely Planet Traveller’s Choice for “Meeting other travellers”

Good to see Nepal listed by travellers as their choice for meeting other travellers. Although, I do believe that it stands no less in other categories such as cultural sights and nature, its awesome to know that tourists still show their love towards Nepal. Imagine where the country could be placed if tourism took a more “structured” approach in Nepal.

Meeting other travellers

As expected, backpacking hotspots dominated the best places to meet other travellers. Backpackers tend to be on longer trips, which facilitates more encounters with fellow travellers. Australia topped the list with 26% of visitors ranking it first.

Nepal was listed third, after Australia and Thailand.

In the Adventure, category, Nepal bagged the fifth position. Not bad I say!
And yes we are in the top 20 list of overall favorites category!

Nepal police crack down on festival cannabis smokers

(RawStory) Nepalese police said Sunday they have arrested more than 60 pilgrims for smoking cannabis and disturbing the peace at a major religious festival.

Cannabis is illegal in Nepal, but under an ancient legal loophole authorities allow holy men — known as sadhus — to smoke it during an annual, often wild, celebration in honour of Hindu god Shiva.

Thousands of pilgrims travel to the sprawling Pashupatinath temple complex in Kathmandu every year from all over Nepal and India to mark the occasion, which is known as Shivaratri.

Why are they arresting people for smoking weed on Shivaratri? It’s Shivaratri. Smoke all you want.

Does anyone know what they’re called?

Edit: It’s a musical instrument called Tungna and it’s apparently quite rare. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one.
