the article you published a few days ago "Kathmandu Girls" by Jenna Diki Sherpa, would translate, if you can, the Nepali quotes, please

Sure thing! I’m glad people are interested in this article. I’m gonna try my best to translate and explain it in context, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to articulate the full meaning/emotion involved. Translation in chronological order:

“Kyaaa cha yaar!”- How’s it going buddy? (But in this case it’s said in a derogatory, bullying sense)

“Kastari ruyo, bichari,“- Poor girl, she cried so hard.

"ijjat lutyo”- Literally means “honor stolen". As in someone (a girl usually) was raped or sexually assaulted.

“Nai nai bhanthyo, of course, but hamro jasto hoina, tyeta arkai cha…”-  "They [the girls] said ‘no no’, of course, but it’s not like we have it here, it’s different there". (As in the girls are different? I’m not exactly sure..But that’s the uncle’s “excuse" for raping the girls. If I have my way, I’d like to break every single bone in his body and leave him out on the streets)

“bahini"- Younger sister

Wasn't the Buddha born in Nepal?

Yep. He was born in Lumbini in southern Nepal.

About Me

I grew up in a small town helping my parents on their farm. There I developed my love for nature and a desire to explore. Now I travel around the world photographing nature.

Interests

I love to travel. I have been everywhere, from Alaska to Zimbabwe. For every trip I keep a travel log of my adventures and capture the world as I see it.

Check out my photo gallery to get a glimpse into where I have been. And drop me a line if want to find out more. I always love to hear from fellow travelers.

Aspirations

I am looking for my next big adventure. There are still many places I want to visit and even more to which I want to return. The camera is charged up and my backpack is packed; drop me a line if you know where I should go next.
