Prithvi Narayan Shah’s Victory over Kantipur
The Gorkha King Prithvi Narayan Shah is receiving tika at a platform in Basantapur after having attacked and conquered Kathmandu without any blood-shed in the midhnight of the Indra Jatra (chariot festival of the living goddess Kumari) in 1768 A.D. Through this tika, he is acquiring legitimacy as the new King of Kathmandu and giving continuity to the Kumari festival. The victorious army of the Gorkha King is deployed around for security. Several attractions of the Indra Jatra festival such as the musical bands, Mahakali Dance, Lakhe Dance, Tanakisi (an elephant figure), the tantrik Bajracharya priests clad in traditional attire and the presence of innumerous spectators have added to the liveliness of the occasion.
