I guess the Queen’s presence and the concomitant required decorum is the reason the medal is for Conspicuous Gallantry instead of Serious Baddassery. From the article:

At one point, after exhausting all his ammunition, he had to use the tripod of his machine gun to beat away a militant who was climbing the walls of the compound.   

Gurkhas are serious hombres. Apparently there are still men out there that don’t fall into the cowardly idiot type that american television programs depict. (Unlike american films until the mid-1990s, which depict men like Corporal Pun as the norm for male lead.)

what makes this post so much better is that it’s not posted by a Nepalese person but someone who appreciates the work of Gurkha and recognizes their hard work. proud to be a daughter of a Gurkha.
