Welcome to my website!

Naturally Nepal

Namaste! Join me as I take you on an adventure through Nepal in the heart of the Himalayas. Submissions are open!

is cholo/bhoto something exclusively nepali?

The outfit? I think so, but similar designs can be seen in other Asian cultures as well. We have an actual “Bhoto Jatra“ in Kathmandu Valley so I think the cholo/bhoto with ties (tuna) that you can tie and wear is most likely something that is exclusively Nepali. I know that the Jatra was started during the Lichhibi era in Kathmandu.

I’m just saying this based on my experience/knowledge. If anyone knows, feel free to add on!

there are so many words in nepali that are newari but no one seems to know! even simple words like jhyal, dhoka, syau, golbheda (i mean tomato), pasal, maiju, bhaju, daju. unfortunately i cant speak because i'm actually not even newari but my dad speaks it fluently though he isn't newari neither. i wish i could speak it too though

I wonder if there is a dictionary or some record of the different words that went from one language to another. I only know these things from word of mouth so not quite sure how the language influences went about.

Thanks for sharing!

Gurai Kunwar, 82 and his Grandson. Gurai is a widower, he is currently sleeping in a plastic covered shelter that provides no warmth other than protection from the wind. He still uses his badly shattered house, which is leaning to one side, for cooking and storage. The building is dangerous to enter or even to be close to as it could easily crumble or fall apart at the slightest stress. Garai has few options, his family supports him, the community helps as best they can and sadly, his case is not the only one, there are many elderly widows and widowers who are faced with similar circumstances.

I just got done my final exams a few days ago and I’ll be traveling to Mexico right away and won’t get back until end of next week. There are still quite some messages that I haven’t responded to, and I won’t be able to get to it until much later. I apologize for the delay but I’ll get to them eventually!

I hope you guys have a wonderful holiday season!

About Me

I grew up in a small town helping my parents on their farm. There I developed my love for nature and a desire to explore. Now I travel around the world photographing nature.

Interests

I love to travel. I have been everywhere, from Alaska to Zimbabwe. For every trip I keep a travel log of my adventures and capture the world as I see it.

Check out my photo gallery to get a glimpse into where I have been. And drop me a line if want to find out more. I always love to hear from fellow travelers.

Aspirations

I am looking for my next big adventure. There are still many places I want to visit and even more to which I want to return. The camera is charged up and my backpack is packed; drop me a line if you know where I should go next.
