what is badaam sandheko?

Peanut salsa is the best way I can describe it. It’s a Nepali snack dish and you make it with chopped garlic, green peppers, peanuts, lime juice spices, chopped tomatoes etc etc pretty similar to a salsa but with peanuts in it.

What do you think of intercultural relationships? Would you personally be in one? I been put in this situation recently. I'm hesitant b/c I don't want to compromise my values/ culture to the dominate western culture. How would you find the balance?

I think they’re perfectly fine! I am in one currently and have been in it for the past two years or so. You don’t have to compromise your values or culture at all. The other person (if they really care about you and the relationship) should have no problem with your wishes of wanting to follow your culture and they should not make you feel like you need to choose between being with them or following your culture. You find the balance by doing what you feel is right. If they are not willing to consider your wishes for yourself and respect and learn about your culture like literally what is the point of that relationship. Just do what you normally do/how you normally follow your culture and if there is an uncertainty or an issue, you need to communicate with your partner and sort it out. Communication is key, but know that you don’t have to do anything you don’t feel like doing. I’ve never had to take part in an unfair compromise, and quite frankly I wouldn’t be in a relationship if that was the case. I just do what I normally would do, and if we have some issues then we talk it out and resolve it. :)

Edit: We can talk more on my personal blog if you’d like.

Would you consider Nepalese people to be desi? I was raised in the states so I'm confused but all the Nepalese people I know don't consider themselves desi but I had this Indian girl tell me we are so I don't know?

We had this conversation on this blog not too long ago. I’ll link you to some posts here. (1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x)

But basically some Nepalis would consider themselves to be Desi and some wouldn’t. I personally do not identify as Desi because I feel like that term is more suitable for Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshis (and even then, some of them may not identify as such..It’s tough to say). I think it’s best to let Nepalis decide what they identify as. You know yourself and your heritage the best, and don’t let anyone tell you what to or what not to identify as. Nepalis have a very diverse culture, so our identity is also going to be very diverse. People may try to put you in a box or in one specific category for whatever reason, and you don’t have to accept it if you don’t agree with it. Simple as that :)

Also my friend @hippie-from-nepal shared this TED talk video with me not too long ago. I think a lot of people like us (Nepali heritage but didn’t really grow up in Nepal or moved around a lot etc) can agree or relate to a lot of things she talks about.

About Me

I grew up in a small town helping my parents on their farm. There I developed my love for nature and a desire to explore. Now I travel around the world photographing nature.

Interests

I love to travel. I have been everywhere, from Alaska to Zimbabwe. For every trip I keep a travel log of my adventures and capture the world as I see it.

Check out my photo gallery to get a glimpse into where I have been. And drop me a line if want to find out more. I always love to hear from fellow travelers.

Aspirations

I am looking for my next big adventure. There are still many places I want to visit and even more to which I want to return. The camera is charged up and my backpack is packed; drop me a line if you know where I should go next.
