Is it ok to travel to Nepal right now? Or maybe towards the end of the year? With slow earthquake recovery & what they're going through, many still homeless, I'd feel bad traipsing around it all like a tourist. Plus aftershocks. Thoughts? Thanks!
This is totally up to you and your convenience. My mom is leaving for Nepal tomorrow so it’s perfectly safe to travel there right now and the tourism board declared Nepal safe to travel a couple months after the big earthquake last year. The whole recovery process is going to take at least 10 years for a country like Nepal. Hopefully people have a roof over their heads a lot sooner than that but there is no way to avoid seeing poverty in Nepal no matter when you go. You’ll see homeless people even on the fanciest streets of Kathmandu (Durbar Marg, Thamel, Jhamel etc) including little kids and babies. If you really are worried for the earthquake victims, and you have a professional skill set that they would benefit from then volunteer or donate to organizations that are helping them. I know doctors and nurses that travelled to Nepal from Canada and volunteered/worked at Nepali hospitals. Besides Nepal’s economy benefits a lot from tourism and right now Nepal needs the tourism income more than ever.
I personally would pick a time and just go. It’s gonna be good no matter what season you choose to travel in. PS- no one knows when the aftershocks will end. 😧
